Patrick Mendoza faces seven charges felony charges from the alleged shooting on July 12, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. He's been held without bail since his arrest in the summer.
Police said Mendoza was riding his bicycle down a busy Hanover Street when he saw a man he had a long-simmering beef with that dates back 20 years, officials have said. He screamed “I’m gonna get you,” and “I’m gonna kill you (obscenity)! It’s gonna be quick," pulled a .38-caliber pistol from his waistband, and fired three shots, the prosecutor said.
All missed their target. One bullet blasted through the front window of Modern Pastry. Ballistics from the bullet, fingerprints from the area, and surveillance video of Mendoza racing away on his bicycle led to his arrest, police said.
Mendoza is charged with:
- Carrying a firearm without an FID card
- Carrying a loaded gun without a license
- Possession of ammunition without an FID card
- Assault with a dangerous weapon
- Assault to murder
- Witness intimidation
- Possession of a firearm within 500 ft of a dwelling
Mendoza is a restaurateur whose family owns Monica’s Trattoria on Prince Street in Boston.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden applauded the ruling.
This is an appropriate ruling given the extreme danger of Mr. Mendoza’s actions, which occurred in one of the city’s busiest areas and on one of its busiest streets. To fire shots on any Boston street is intolerable, but add the fact that this area is packed with tourists, diners and residents at all times of the year—and even more so during the summer season—and the danger level ratchets up even higher.
